Bio :
Jim has worked in the packaging industry for 34 years covering both creative and R&D technical functions. He has had lead packaging roles in various FMCG’s such as P&G, Huhtamaki, Mondelez and Jacobs Douwe Egberts developing products that push boundaries to stimulate global markets and consumers. Initially by creating convenience food packaging solutions within the limits of a single packaging format to then leading the technical development of multi-material and multi-component assemblies for luxury fragrances and the coffee industry. This range of roles within Packaging Design, Plant Packaging Development and R&D has allowed him to share his passion for innovation, materials and processes to create new products that excite and hopefully delight consumers. Currently he works as a Packaging Sustainability Consultant at PA Consulting which brings him into contact with many new to the world materials that Global brands are investigating to reduce their environmental impact and Carbon footprint.
Experience Summary
• Work with Major FMCG and Global Brands and their customers. Brand exposure includes: Fragrances - D&G, Lacoste, Escada, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Coffee - Carte Noire, Kenco, L’Or, Jacobs, Maxwell House, Moconna, Foodservice – MacDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Bidfoods. Bakery and Dairy – Mission Foods, successfully launching products in Asda, Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl, M&S and Tesco.
• Packaging Development – Jim has led the technical design and delivery of packaging of many formats and materials throughout his career. He has a thorough understanding of all the requirements from the design, manufacture, and decoration of packaging through to the qualification and validation on filling lines and in the supply chain.
• Packaging Sustainability – Jim has led the introduction of a Mono PE barrier laminate to replace a complex PET /PE barrier laminate to enable the pack to be taken back to store and recycled. This involved identifying suitable films and suppliers, engineering line assessments, planning material qualifications, line modifications and monitoring barrier performance to ensure the shelf life of the bread was not affected. While at PA Consulting he has been involved in the development of Dry Molded Fiber for 3 years which is a new to market sustainable fiber material to replace single use plastics.
• Packaging Materials and processes – Jim has developed products in many of the major packaging formats and processes throughout his career and a unique insight into the requirements on all levels to deliver success.
• Packaging Project Management – Jim has led the Project Management of a variety of packaging initiatives covering D2P, Value engineering, New Brand launches and Brand Extensions, Packaging Redesign and Packaging Sustainability, Delivering Best Practice Packaging Training and Improvements to current processes.
